Job Description
Our client is a well-regarded and rapidly expanding firm of claimant personal injury solicitors. Working closely with the firmís senior partner, this is an exciting opportunity to establish and develop an in-house department, dealing with all aspects of costs. Ideally you will be educated to degree standard and possess experience working either in house or for an external supplier of costs drafting services. You will either be fully or part qualified.
Job description
1) Preparation of summary assessment schedules, breakdowns of costs at case conclusion and formal bills where detailed assessment or Part 8 proceedings are required
2) Drafting replies to Points of Dispute
3) Negotiating settlement of costs in litigated and non-litigated claimant personal injury cases
4) Advising fee earners regarding costs disputes and assisting with their own negotiations
5) Attendance at, and preparation for, detailed assessment hearings
6) It is anticipated that the Law Costs Draftsperson will take a full part in helping the firmís Partners to run the firm in an efficient and business-like manner, making suggestions where appropriate and being prepared to take on other ad hoc tasks as and when the need arises to make sure the firm achieves its aims and continues to grow successfully and profitably. whilst maintaining an excellent standard of customer care.

Person specification
1) GCSE passes at Grade C or above including English and Mathematics or equivalent. Candidate must be demonstrably numerically skilled
2) ALCD qualified or part-qualified, or qualified by significant experience
3) At least A Level standard Ė and ideally degree standard - financial or legal qualifications
4) You will have a flexible approach, and be able to respond to rapid changes in working schedules and priorities. For this you will need to be organised and able to communicate clearly with people at all levels.
5) Proven experience as a law costs draftsperson or associated position, working either in-house or for an external supplier of costs drafting services
6) Applicants should be committed and hard working individuals who enjoy operating in a pressurised and highly motivated team environment. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to work on your own initiative with the minimum of supervision.
7) The role involves the use of IT systems and therefore computer literacy, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, is essential.
8) Knowledge of time recording procedures
9) Ability to act on own initiative within the parameters of the role, including suggestions for improved efficiency and better customer service
10) Attention to detail and able consistently to produce work to a high standard, both in terms of accuracy and presentation
